Why You Need to be the Pilot in Your Business Presentation

It’s coming up to the time of year when many people are jetting off to sunnier, warmer and drier(!) climes   . . . for their summer holidays.

If you are one of them then you know that as you settle yourself into your airline seat, fasten your seatbelt, turn off your mobile, laptop etc and are taxiing along the runway the pilot begins one of the many announcements you’ll get throughout the flight, giving you updates on weather, arrival time, route, wind speed etc.

Now you may not be really interested or even find it boring, especially if you travel regularly, but many people find it reassuring that the pilot is in control.

Both are stuck in their seats for a fixed period of time and both are at the mercy of someone else to lead the way…..

But one of the differences is that when you’re on an aeroplane you know what you’re destination is and the pilot keeps you updated on your progress.

Unfortunately when you’re in a presentation audience you often have no idea where the presenter is taking you.

If it’s a PowerPoint presentation the slides can often seem disconnected and it can be a major problem because sometimes you have to work really hard to find out the connection.

Sometimes its just not worth the effort and you switch off and you probably know exactly what I mean.

As a speaker and presenter you need to provide a clear flight plan for your presentation audience.

Tell them where they’re going and how they’re going to get there.

Make it easy for them to follow.

Become the pilot for your audience…..

and then they’ll have confidence in you knowing that you’re in control.

Until next time,

With best wishes for your success,

Cath
