How to Use WII FM to Connect with Your Presentation Audience

How often have you sat in an audience listening to a presentation only to say  to yourself  “so what?”

Now this could be

” so what is he/she talking about?”

or

” so what has this got to do with my business?”

or even

” so what am I doing here?”-  which happened to me recently!

This happens because the speaker only thinks about what they want to say and fails to think of the presentation from audience’s point of view. The result is that the listeners will become disinterested, disconnect from what you are saying and  may even switch off altogether which is not going to win you any business.

When I’m working with my clients I role play a member of the intended audience and help my clients to avoid this by turning it around and asking “so what?” at each stage of the presentation. I also ask  them What’s In It For Me?

for example :

“What’s In It For Me?”….. to listen to you?

“What’s In It For Me?”….. to give you my business card?

“What’s In It For Me?”…..  to call you next week or meet you for coffee?

because this applies whether you are giving a formal  presentation for an interview or a conference,  or talking to someone at a networking event.

When you use “So what?” together with  ” WII FM?”  it enables you to quickly and easily come at it from your audience’s perspective and you connect with them in a way  that very many other speakers don’t.

Until next time,

with best wishes for your success,

Cath
